“From Action Hero to Underwater Hero: How Jason Statham’s Diving Background Rescued Him in a Terrifying Expendables 3 Stunt Gone Wrong”

One of the most successful movie franchises of the past decade is the Expendables series. After a long wait of nine years since the third installment’s release in 2014, fans are eagerly anticipating the fourth film, titled Expend4bles. The action-packed scenes in these movies are well-known for featuring mostly practical stunts performed by the actors themselves, without relying heavily on computer-generated imagery. However, these stunts can sometimes go awry and put the performers’ lives in danger. In the case of Jason Statham, while filming Expendables 3, he nearly drowned but was able to save himself thanks to his previous experience with scuba diving.

The movie Expendables 3 features a thrilling scene where Jason Statham’s character and his crew escape from the villain’s men in a flatbed truck. The scene was filmed in Bulgaria, and during rehearsals, the brakes on Statham’s truck suddenly failed, causing the truck to crash into the Black Sea. Despite being the only one in the truck, Statham was able to escape unharmed due to his background as a former diver who competed for England at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. However, he panicked when his gun holster got snagged, hindering his escape. Nonetheless, Statham was grateful for surviving the accident, explaining that it was a “nasty experience” that put things into perspective for him. After resting and drying off, Statham went back and successfully filmed the scene again. Interestingly, Sylvester Stallone also suffered an injury while filming Expendables 3.

Sylvester Stallone, who is widely known for his high-octane movies, sustained an injury while shooting for Expendables 3. The veteran actor revealed that he had a back injury due to a fall on the set, which required metal implants. He also joked that if anyone hears squeaking, it’s not his shoes, but his back. However, Stallone assured his fans that he was recovering well from the injury. Fortunately, both Stallone and his co-star recovered from their injuries, and after almost nine years, they are back with a new installment of the Expendables franchise. The trailer has recently been released, and the movie is scheduled to hit theaters on September 22nd, 2023.
