Tom Cruise Expresses Interest in Working With $165 Million MCU Star Despite Turning Down Iron Man Role

Tom Cruise is a highly successful and beloved actor in the industry, known for his superb acting skills and love for action. Although Mission Impossible 7 received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, the film’s poor performance at the box office has been attributed to Barbenheimer’s marketing hype. Nevertheless, Cruise’s fans have expressed their enjoyment of the movie and are eagerly anticipating the sequel, set to release on June 28, 2024. Despite declining the role of Iron Man in the MCU, which was eventually given to Robert Downey Jr., Cruise has expressed a desire to work with someone from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The identity of that person remains unknown. Interestingly, Cruise changed his name early on in his career as he wanted to distance himself from his father permanently.

Actor Tom Cruise, known for his role as Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible franchise, recently revealed in an interview with Movie Web that he was offered the role of Tony Stark (Iron Man) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, he turned it down and the role was eventually played by Robert Downey Jr. Cruise stated that he wants to do things right and commit fully to a project in order to make it something special. As he was considering the role, he didn’t feel like it was going to work out and he needed to be able to make decisions to ensure the film was as great as it could be. This led him to decline the role.

Tom Cruise declined the Iron Man role, which was ultimately played by Robert Downey Jr. In an interview, Cruise praised Downey Jr.’s performance and believed that he was the perfect fit for the character. Cruise added that he would be interested in playing a superhero if the story was compelling and if the audience wanted to see him in that role. Additionally, Cruise expressed his willingness to work with Scarlett Johansson, one of the highest-paid actresses in the industry, who had previously mentioned her desire to collaborate with him. During the promotion of Mission Impossible 7 in Rome, Cruise responded graciously to Johansson’s comment.

Tom Cruise has expressed his desire to work with Scarlett Johansson in a movie, stating that he has been wanting to do so for a long time and that it looks like it will happen. He praised Johansson’s talent, charisma, and screen presence, saying that she could excel in any genre. In another part of the interview, Cruise mentioned his love for the cinema experience and how MI7 was made with the audience, cinema, distributors, and big screens in mind.

Interestingly, Johansson was expected to be a part of Mission Impossible III, but director Joe Carnahan quit the movie 15 months after working on it due to creative differences with studio bosses. J.J. Abrams took over as director and the movie was different from Carnahan’s vision. He had planned to cast Kenneth Branagh, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Scarlett Johansson, which was a big heartbreak for him as he saw how amazing they would have been.

The much-awaited Mission Impossible II movie of Tom Cruise was rumored to feature Scarlett Johansson. Joe Carnahan, the director, revealed that Carrie-Anne Moss’s performance with a handgun after just a month and a half of training was mind-blowing. He also boasted about having the two best mask reveals in the history of the franchise, which were not just cartoony gimmicks but had significant plot implications. Sadly, the project never materialized, and Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson missed out on working together. But there’s always hope for the future.
